URGENT 🛼Prospect Park just confirmed on News 12 URGENT 🛼Prospect Park just confirmed on News 12 that Dreamland Roller Disco is being replaced. They stated they are “finalizing their schedule with other promoters,” officially confirming that our beloved 11-year roller disco series is not being renewed.

This comes after:
– We were confirmed in writing for our usual season
– We were then offered half the rate we’ve been paid for over a decade
– When we pushed back, we were told they’d be “interviewing other promoters”
– And during a July 9th meeting, a verbal threat was made that if we went public about any of this, Dreamland would not be allowed to return.

That threat came from Ekstein Development, the new private operator of the rink — and Prospect Park Alliance stood by and affirmed that threat. They watched it happen. They enabled it. And Council Member Hanif’s office, despite being CC’d on years of safety and equity complaints, has remained silent.

We have receipts, documentation, and emails proving every step of this.

This is not how beloved, community-built public programming should be treated — especially on taxpayer-owned and funded land.

💔 Dreamland is not a budget line to cut. It’s a cultural treasure. A safe haven. A reflection of the Brooklyn community we love.

THIS IS URGENT

A beloved @prospect_park community tradition is in A beloved @prospect_park community tradition is in danger of being displaced — not for lack of success, impact or love, but because a private developer is being given the power to decide the future of our programming on public, taxpayer-funded land.

Despite 11 years of successful, inclusive events that have brought joy to thousands, we’ve been shut out of key decisions. Our 88 page programming proposal was rejected by Prospect Park without a meeting. They confirmed our season in writing but then a drastically reduced offer was made — and when we raised concerns, we were threatened — and accused of spreading misinformation. We have hard proof that confirms otherwise.

This City Agency has actively supported the developer, leaving many of us wondering:

Why is this happening on City owned and funded land?

We support inclusive programming. We welcome growth. But displacing Dreamland isn’t the way forward — especially without transparency or respect for what this series means to Brooklyn.

Every Friday night, April- Oct, for the past 11 years, Dreamland has transformed the LeFrak Center into something bigger than a roller rink — a place of self-expression, love, freedom, and pure joy. A place where strangers become community, where music and movement bring healing, where everyone — no matter their age, background, or identity — is welcome to shine.

Dreamland isn’t just an event. It’s a ritual. A refuge. A heartbeat of Brooklyn’s creative soul.

But now, after 11 years of pouring our hearts into this space, our event series is in danger.

We’re asking Prospect Park for the chance to continue what we’ve built together, without cuts, without silence, and without erasure.

🌟 If Dreamland has ever made you feel free, alive, or at home — please sign and share the petition. This space belongs to the people. Let’s make sure it stays that way.

Also, look for me on @news12bk tonight!!!

Petition link in bio 😡 Dreamland Update: Today’s Meeting, today I met with Prospect Park Alliance and Ekstein Development to fight for Dreamland Roller Disco’s return to the LeFrak Center.

It was hard. And honestly, deeply disappointing.

Ekstein opened the meeting by telling me to treat this like a “Day 1 job interview”—as if Dreamland’s 11-year legacy, nearly 300 events, and proven success meant nothing. I responded clearly: This is not Day 1. We’ve built one of the most beloved and successful event series in Prospect Park history. We are not starting from scratch.

Ekstein Development asked to see our financial numbers from previous years and from our events at Xanadu. She said she would “show them to accounting” and base any future Dreamland programming on that.

I asked Prospect Park Alliance if this decision was really about “the numbers”—or if they were willing to take a stand against displacing a longtime, community-rooted program. The response? A shrug. They said it “made sense” for their “ultra luxury” developer tenant to base everything on accounting.

They said that if they did have Dreamland back it would not be a weekly event. When I pushed back against the idea of shrinking our season, they told me flat out: they won’t agree to let us continue our weekly Friday night event.

I objected and I was met with more pushback—and shaming. For not being “grateful” for what little they were offering. For not staying quiet. For not accepting a reduced schedule and reduced value after 11 years of successful, consistent programming.

But I won’t apologize for standing up for Dreamland.

We are not asking for favors. We are asking for fairness. For respect. For the chance to continue serving the community each week as we’ve shown up for, year after year.

This is a taxpayer-owned rink, in a city park, operated by a private luxury real estate firm—and PPA is letting them treat a trusted community partner like we’re disposable.

I’ll keep fighting for this space. But I want you to know what’s happening behind the scenes.

This isn’t just about Dreamland anymore. It’s about how our city treats community, creativity, and culture.
🛼💔 Wish Me Luck, Dreamland Family… Today I 🛼💔 Wish Me Luck, Dreamland Family… Today I’m meeting with Prospect Park and the new corporation operating the LeFrak center to defend Dreamland Roller Disco’s right to exist in the very space we helped build.

For 11 years, every Friday night, April through October my team and I have poured our hearts and souls into Dreamland at the LeFrak Center:
✨ Creating collective joy
🛼 Building community
🎶 Making culture

We’ve hosted nearly 300 packed events—a beloved, proven program that brought joy to thousands. And yet… we’re struggling to continue hosting our beloved event series at the very rink we helped make what it is.

I submitted an 88-page proposal to expand Dreamland’s inclusive, community-focused roller skating at LeFrak. It was rejected without a conversation. Not even a meeting.

Instead, Prospect Park Alliance handed control of this city-owned, taxpayer-funded venue to Eckstein Development—an “ultra luxury” real estate firm with no experience in roller skating, no ties to the local community, and no understanding of what Dreamland means to all of you.

They offered us a drastically reduced fee. My team has received the same rate for 11 years. No increase despite Dreamland’s popularity. No raise to keep the rate in line with raising rent and inflation. And now, they offered us even less if we want to continue operating at LeFrak.

This isn’t new. Under the last operator, I reported harassment, unsafe conditions, and misconduct—hundreds of emails, all ignored. Now it’s happening again, under a new name—with zero guardrails in place.

PPA refused to protect long-standing community partners during this transition. Now they’re letting a developer push out the people who actually built this community space.

💰 City-owned land
💸 Built with your tax dollars
📢 Meant to serve the public—not private interests

I know how much Dreamland means to so many of you. And I want you to know: I see it. I feel it. And I’m fighting for it.

Please send love. Please keep your eyes open.
I’ll keep you updated—in full transparency—because this space belongs to us.

With love,
💖 Lola
11 years ago today, I announced the beginning of D 11 years ago today, I announced the beginning of Dreamland Roller Disco at the LeFrak Center with this photo—I never could’ve imagined the beautiful, joy-filled, supportive community we would become together.

What we built together became more than an event. Dreamland at Prospect Park grew into a sanctuary of joy, love, freedom, and radical inclusivity. It became a heartbeat in Prospect Park—a space where people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds came together to feel free.

Now, we’re struggling to hold onto that legacy—and to keep creating the magic we’ve shared with you for so many years. It’s heartbreaking to say, but we’re facing obstacles with the Prospect Park Alliance and the new operator, Eckstein “Ultra Luxury” Development, as we fight just to stay in the space we helped build with so much love.

This isn’t just personal—it’s public. LeFrak is a taxpayer-owned facility, and it should serve you, the community that made it what it is.

I know so many of you are waiting anxiously for the return of our roller disco nights—and I feel that urgency deeply. We need Dreamland now more than ever. We need spaces that welcome us all. We need collective joy.

For those of you who know my story, this may feel painfully familiar. It echoes what happened in Coney Island—another hard-fought dream challenged by corporate forces beyond my control.

I’m doing everything I can to make sure we get back on that dance floor together. I’ll be sharing more details—and hopefully a season announcement—soon.

Thank you for skating beside me, believing in this dream, and making the past 11 years of Dreamland Roller Disco in Prospect Park so incredibly magical. 💖🛼

8 years ago tonight at Dreamland Roller Disco 🥺 8 years ago tonight at Dreamland Roller Disco 🥺🛼

Dreamland Skaters, we miss you so much. Our community. Our skate fam. The costumes. The glitter, the joy, the Friday night magic we’ve brought to Prospect Park, every year, from April through October—for the past 11 years.

Right now, we’re still in limbo. Our community has been reaching out non-stop, wondering when our Prospect Park season of skating will begin. We wish we had answers.

The world needs community, collective joy and inclusive roller disco magic more than ever. Hopefully, the Park will recognize the magic and legacy we’ve created—and allow us to bring it back home soon.

Until then, we’re waiting. Holding space. And missing you all deeply.
