Lola Star, aka Dianna Carlin, is a roller skating dynamo — she launched the awesomeDreamland Roller Rink in Coney Island in 2008, and when it closed in 2010, she didn’t let that stop her. She kept her eye out for a place as magical as the Childs building, and now the opportunity to roll again has presented itself at Lakeside in Prospect Park.
“The Lakeside Rink in Prospect Park had the same kind of openness and magic that the Childs building had,” she told Ditmas Park Corner. “As you skate around, you see the beautiful trees and scenery the park has to offer.”
So, starting on Friday, July 11, Dreamland returns with roller dance parties at Lakeside. Every Friday night from 8-10pm through the fall, bust your roller moves to a new theme — the first one is Flashdance – and enjoy dance and costume competitions with prizes donated by local businesses, performances that promise to bring a taste of Coney Island to Prospect Park, and more. Tickets are $15, which includes skate rental.
